- "Specialists in forest survival. Their deadly arrows and extraordinary speed can save the party."
- —Survivalist description, Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight
True masters of the labyrinth, these quick-footed bowmen strike fear into their foes' hearts with dead-on accuracy.
The Survivalist is an expert at forest survival, whose knowledge of the forest's ways and skill in tracking and stealth help them navigate the Labyrinth and appreciate its richness. They share this expertise with their allies to help them avoid unpleasant entanglements and get the jump on hostiles. Their weapon of choice is the bow and arrow so they can maximize the distance between themselves and their prey. Rather than carry heavy armor, the forest is their fortress; the Survivalist moves fast to confound their enemies on either line of battle.
Profile[]
Quick-witted explorers whose knowledge of forest survival allows them to ambush and evade their enemies, and help their allies do the same. Survivalists pick off targets with precise barrages of arrows. The best bow of the game, the Arc Drawer, can be obtained pretty reliably in the mid-game, keeping the Survivalist a powerful combatant for the rest of the main game.
- Strengths: Excellent speed and accuracy, and can improve their allies' speed. Field skills help control enemy encounters and can harvest all types of materials.
- Weaknesses: Moderate defense and moderate attack power before getting their bow, but this will fall off as others obtain weapons that match and surpass it.

Profile[]
Survivalists are now fast and powerful, due to their base damage now calculating off their incredibly high Agility stat. They also gain a good Luck growth to make the most of their ailment-inducing arrows, letting them blind, paralyze, or put troublesome enemies to sleep before they can act. They lose a bit of potency in their support skills but make up for it with much more lethal bow attacks. Their three gathering skills have also been united under one skill - Natural Instinct - making them a great party member for general farming trips through the labyrinth.
- Strengths: Devastating strikes coupled with immense speed allows them to pluck off enemies quickly and efficiently. Coupled with their high Luck, they can inflict various ailments with relative ease, making their battles easier and easier.
- Weaknesses: Mediocre defenses combined with a difficulty obtaining their weapons make them a tricky class to start out with, unless rectified through grimoire stones.
- Force Boost - Illusion Step: For 3 turns, evasion is tripled, and a follow-up attack is performed after using a Bow skill.
- Force Break - Summer Rain: 16 ranged stab attacks to all enemies at random. Each enemy can only be hit a maximum of 4 times.

Profile[]
In the transition from The Fafnir Knight to Nexus, the Survivalist loses a fair bit - their damage no longer calculates off their Agility stat, and unlike the Gunner they don't get any Strength back to compensate. Instead they have a greater focus on party support in and out of combat. In the face of classes like the Ninja, Nightseeker, and Harbinger the Survivalist gets out-competed in ailment support, so they focus into Blind Arrow to be one of the strongest sources of blind to help the whole party dodge attacks. Survivalists gain new and improved harvestry and item skills to incentivize use of the labyrinth's resources, to pair particularly well with Farmers.
- Strengths: Excellent speed and evasion, and improves those of their allies. Also aids the party in harvestry, initiative, navigation, and healing.
- Weaknesses: Barring high Agility, they have below average stats across the board, proficient in nothing in particular unlike specialists like Ninja and Gunner.
- Force Boost - Illusory Formation: For 3 turns, raises the party's act speed and evasion.
- Force Break - Mirage Arrow: Strong ranged stab attack to one enemy. Decreases its accuracy and act speed for 3 turns.

Skill Breakdown[]
Although more like wilderness guides than before, Survivalists still come to the game with a decent set of bow skills. They have every bow skill from The Fafnir Knight save for Sleep and Paralysis Arrow in exchange for Flame Arrow and Power Shot, as well as Finishing Shot from Etrian 5's Rover. These skills allow Survivalists to contribute effectively in many combat situations, although not to the intensity seen in The Fafnir Knight where their damage scales on AGI rather than the usual STR. As usual, AGI is far above their other stats. Curiously, WIS is the distant second, with the rest just as flat as Shogun's.
As has become expected from the Untold games, Survivalist has a significant set of evasion skills. These differ from Ninja's skills in that they all benefit the entire party in some way, and tie into the Survivalist's bow shots rather than ailment infliction. Blind Arrow is the best and most basic example. Very intentionally carried from The Fafnir Knight, Blind Arrow uses the bow to interfere with an enemy's accuracy and evasion, benefitting the whole party, and is conspicuously the best skill for inflicting blind (closely followed by Nightseeker's Sand Throw), which Ninja does not have native access to. In a similar vein are Trickery and the Force Boost and Break, Illusory Formation and Mirage Arrow. Baitstep from Heroes of Lagaard evolved into the Chain Dance of The Fafnir Knight, now used in Nexus. Protecting the party like a Fencer might, it and any other way the Survivalist dodges attacks leads into their most powerful bow skill, Hazy Arrow.
Survivalists are again capable of boosting an ally to the top of the turn order. Quick Step has a number of uses, notably moving before Rare Breeds, but also healing or attacking before any enemy or other ally can react. Some skills have extra benefits from going first, such as Imperial's Drive attacks and most debuff skills. Survivalists can also make an ally a "Scapegoat", or target of enemy attacks.
Healing up from failures to evade injury is a vital skill for surviving the wilds. Outside battle Survivalists can Resuscitate allies, but in battle they rely on consumable items with the support of Efficiency and Sorting Skill. As items are consumed, their inventory spaces are replaced by materials taken from monsters and gathering points. Natural Instinct and Nature's Blessing as well as Sorting Skill make gathering runs highly profitable, so Survivalists can easily afford items bought from town. As always, Survivalists help Sneak Attack monsters and practice Risk Perception to avoid surprises, or avoid encounters altogether with Cautious Steps. They can ensure Safe Passage, and though they lose Owl-Eye, a Simple Scope once in a while should suffice.
Subclassing[]
In Etrian Odyssey Nexus, Survivalists can gain the ability to subclass like the rest of the adventurers.
Subclasses for Survivalist[]
Stats are a bit of a detriment for Survivalists, nothing standing out except Agility, although nothing is severely compromised. They can do a bit of Wisdom-based healing, a bit of physical damage, or a bit of ailment infliction, but their best subclasses enhance exploration and speed-based attributes.
- Ronin and Highlander are very straightforward picks for the combat Survivalist, due to access to Phys ATK Up to improve the Survivalist's damage. Ronin can further supplement with Duel and Upper Stance for more damage or Speed Up and Swift Stance for more speed, while Highlander has HP Up and Phys DEF Up to improve survivability.
- Ninja amplifies the Survivalist's own evasive skills, especially when dodge-tanking to activate Hazy Arrow. Concealment, Ninpo: Flight, and Ninpo: Smoke all increase the evasion of only the Survivalist, while Reflexes and Mystic Calm sustain their stamina.
- Farmer has several skills devoted to improving overall exploration efficiency, some of which Survivalist already has. Stack up another Nature's Blessing to increase the yield of valuable items, along with Double Crop.
- Landsknecht offers Initiative and Proficiency which the Survivalist can easily utilize without any further setup. Other basic passives like Single Devotion improve combat performance.
Survivalist as Subclass[]
Survivalists are usually taken as a subclass for the support options they offer, but is also the only class that can equip bows. Quick Step, while expensive, is important in emergencies to force skills before the enemy can act. Their field skills are also great for better safety in the labyrinth.
- Sovereign takes the subclass for Quick Step and Speed Up to offset their low Agility, letting them deploy their buffs faster without needing to push them all the way to maximum level. Bow attacks let a back-line Sovereign deal some physical damage.
- Farmer has the best direct synergy with the Survivalist subclass. Efficiency dovetails nicely with their Force Boost to keep the party healed, and Sorting Skill expands inventory space so the party can bring home a greater haul. The Survivalist's own Bow attack skills can allow the Farmer to actively contribute to damage.
- Shogun can't wield any ranged weapons by default, but gaining use of a bow lets them sit in the back line and join Shot Commands. Finishing Shot makes getting the last hit even more likely.
