The Shellord, later known as the Nether Tortoise, is a FOE that appears in Etrian Odyssey and Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl.
Shellord (Etrian Odyssey)[]
Shellords are FOEs first encountered on B26F in the Claret Hollows. They move every other step you take and tend to follow a predetermined path instead of chasing you. Following their path on the B27F guarantees that you won't fall into a pit. There is one Shellord on B26F, 10 on B27F, and four on B29F. While it is best to avoid these brutes, you may have to fight them in order to reach the optional treasures scattered throughout the Claret Hollows.
The Shellord will use Blazer, a party wide fire attack. You can mitigate its damage with Antifire, Fire Mist, and/or Immunize. It will also use its standard attack from time to time. The Shellord, like many FOEs, resists Instant Death and Binds.

Nether Tortoise (Etrian Odyssey Untold)[]
The Nether Tortoise is a FOE that is found in the 6th stratum, the Claret Hollows. Although defeatable with proper planning and equipment, it is still recommended to bypass them when possible. As it takes two party steps for it to move one step, you are able to bypass some Nether Tortoises by strategically using warp points. Get within 3 squares of it, and it will turn aggressive and pursue the party without pausing between steps.
If you end up engaging one in combat, prepare for a tough battle. They have a high attack and defense, and are resistant to everything but Ice attacks. On the upside, Nether Tortoises only have two attacks: their standard attack and the skill Fire Breath, which is a devastating fire attack that hits the entire party.
