A bind is a type of negative status condition. Binds are not mutually exclusive to each other or to ailments; a character could potentially have all three binds and an ailment at the same time. Binds restrict the use of certain skills. Binds are removed over time and do not persist outside of battle. They can be cured with skills such as the Medic's Unbind or with the use of Theriaca A.
Head bind[]

A head bind reduces magical prowess, in addition to restricting skills. In I to IV it halves TEC, thereby reducing the strength of magical attacks and healing skills, and increasing the amount of magic damage taken by the combatant. In V and Nexus, it halves INT (so only attack power is affected), and is represented by green chains.
Most elemental attacks and healing and buffing skills are restricted by head bind. Otherwise, head-based skills are fairly intuitive; anything involving voices, biting, glaring, etc.
Arm bind[]

An arm bind halves STR-based damage done, in addition to restricting skills. In V and Nexus it directly halves the STR stat, and is represented by yellow chains.
Almost all weapon-based attacks are restricted by arm bind.
Leg bind[]

A leg bind prevents a unit from evading attacks or escaping from battle, and greatly reduces turn speed. In V and Nexus it also halves AGI (directly affecting accuracy and turn speed), and is represented by red chains.
Chaser-type attacks, tackles and evasion-related effects are restricted by leg bind. Other low-body appendages like stingers, tails and tentacles are also typically counted as legs.
